News: Updates from the Pentech Newsroom

From the Managing Director

Nau mai, haere mai, piki mai, kake mai. Welcome to Pentech Communications and to this instalment of how our values are influenced by the Māori culture of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Kaitiakitanga: Future Proofing

At Pentech, we believe that education is a key contributor to the growth and sustainability of our businesses, our communities, and our regions in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Our belief in the importance of education is reflected in our Business Plan 2016 where we state that ‘thought leadership’ is a strategic priority for Pentech. As we reflect on the past year, we celebrate the success of some of our whanau who graduated recently from University. We are particularly proud to acknowledge two mother and son combinations – ka mau te wehi (fantastic).

Joshua Price BSc in Geology and Physical Geology VUW
Aiden McGillicuddy Master of Commerce in Information Systems VUW
Julie McGillicuddy Post Graduate Diploma in Special Education VUW
Daniel Kahu BSc Majoring in Maths and Computer Science VUW
Ella Kahu Doctor of Philosophy Massey

Our commitment to education is also illustrated through our support of the Victoria Business School (VBS) Excellence Awards. The ceremony was held in May and the Pentech Award for Information Systems was awarded to Arushi Sharma. We are committed to this important programme as VBS delivers graduates who will take Aotearoa New Zealand into a bright future.

Our partnership with Victoria University also led to Jan Schoenfelder, one of our Lead Consulting Architects, delivering a lecture to the Victoria University of Wellington School of Engineering in May. This will be an ongoing contribution to the education of our rangatahi (youth).

So what does this all mean for you as customers?

When you engage with us, we will look to build innovative solutions that add value to the work that has gone on before; the work you have already done. We’ve found that innovation isn’t always about deploying the latest and greatest idea or concept. Sometimes it’s about taking what already works well and complementing, where applicable, with the new.

We can achieve this, not only sharing our knowledge and skills with you, but also by being the recipients of your knowledge and skills about your business, your vision, and your requirements. We believe that outcomes are much richer when we all share our expertise and experiences, by working together, and by learning from each other.

At Pentech, we believe that education is at the heart of Kaitiakitanga and that knowledge is retained through sharing.

Nga mihi nui.

Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa.

From the Managing Director

Nau mai, haere mai, piki mai, kake mai. Welcome to Pentech Communications.

Every culture, every business, and every organisation lives by and is guided by a set of values. Like many New Zealand organisations we are influenced by the Maori culture of Aotearoa New Zealand and as we craft and deliver smart business solutions we do so following our interpretation of the core Maori values:

Value Interpretation
Rangatiratanga ~ Leadership we will provide strong and honest leadership that is focused on delivering outcomes that are in the best interest of everyone
Manaakitanga ~ Support we will provide support and assistance wherever and whenever it is required
Kotahitanga ~ Togetherness we will listen and work towards achieving identified goals and desired outcomes
Kaitiakitanga ~ Guardianship we will take and use the lessons of the past to help build new and exciting solutions that support the needs of the future
Aroha ~ Respectfulness we will respect each other, we will trust each other and accept that there are many valid pathways to achieving our goal
Whanaungatanga ~ Relationships we will share the workload so that we can build strong and lasting relationships

Over the next few months I will write in more detail how we work within these guidelines and I’d like to start with the concept of Whanaungatanga.

Whanaungatanga: Relationships

Often, quite simple philosophies underpin even complex businesses.

For Pentech, nothing could be more straightforward than our focus on people, a principle that applies equally to our team of professionals and to our clients. Taking time to build relationships underpins all we do – it is one of our founding principles.

Pentech was created by a group of like-minded individuals with a background in working for enterprise technology companies. In today’s fast-moving environment, our focus is on businesses that require enterprise-level support, but aren’t spending the sort of money that attracts the interest of the larger supply companies. Do you feel undervalued?

If you work with us, you will quickly discover that our enterprise-grade background enables us to understand your complex business requirements and to provide accurate and innovative enterprise-grade solutions, with enterprise-grade levels of support and service, but at a mid-market price that is appropriate to your needs and budget.

We do this by focussing on relationships; as well as being technically skilled, our team is chosen for their compatibility with this company ethic. We believe in forming partnerships with you and your business. We will sit down with you to listen and to hear what you have to say, to understand your needs, and to work together to craft a great solution – one that will last.

This philosophy is encapsulated in a well-known Maori proverb:

He aha te mea nui o te Ao? Maku e ki atu. He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.
What is the most important thing in the world? I will tell you. It is people, it is people, it is people.

At Pentech we believe that good relationships are built and maintained by good people.

Nga mihi nui.

Tena koutou, tena koutou, tena koutou katoa.
